Hi Mac and welcome to BEV. Really love your web site!

So glad you're planning on visiting the Midwest--please post reports of what you find as you travel. One thing we've all noticed is situations seem to change quickly in the gaming world. Having the latest information is a huge help to players, big time-saver.
We are fortunate to have so many informed players keeping us posted. Thought, for example, that after the Four Winds Casino opened in August of 2007 (Southwest tip of Michigan) that the 21 casinos would be all for awhile. Not so. Vegas Vic sent a linked article announcing numbers 22 and 23 to be completed some time in 2009. (Gun Lake Casino still has a little red tape, but it's almost a done deal.) Think you're in for a great time in your RV and look forward to hearing the latest! Linda |

Hi Linda,
I've been lurking for a while and thought I'd post and say hello!
We've started our travels for the 2008 gambling season and we're on the Mississippi gulf coast tonight. So far it's Casinos 1 McClellans 0, but the year is young.
I'm glad to have found your forum, because we hope to spend more time visiting the Midwest later this year. Knowledge is one key to gambling success, and it seems this forum is the place to find answers for all things Midwestern.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for joining and writing!
Please keep us posted on the goings-on in Kansas. Midwest Gaming & Travel is already available in Kansas--it's a great way of finding casinos when you're on the road. (There's a "Casino Locator" map within the magazine, so you'll be able to find them. I like the fact that MWGT has a venue indicator--Native American, Riverboat "cruise to nowhere" or land, racino or track plus card room.) I really find first-hand information from players like you the most reliable.
We're new, but already have a cross-section of players from around the country. Views from all over are helpful and most welcome! Linda |

I'm no "expert" but am an avid &&. I wish you well on your endeavor with the forum here. Always a treat to swap yarns and pick nits with strategy!
Your comment about the boom of casinos in the Mid-West is appropriate with the developments here in Kansas! We are anxiously awaiting the long awaited here with hopes of casinos more Vegas-like than those in Missouri and Oklahoma.
I look forward to talking with you all. _________________ MikeA |

Hi Babe,
First, thanks for joining and the good wishes. You're a much-respected player and we're fortunate to have you on board!
Also, I appreciate your comments about my progressives article, featured in this month's (June) issue of Midwest Gaming and Travel. I received several emails about the article, all positive, and all mentioned Elliott Shapiro. Elliott was certainly well-known, respected and charismatic--virtually everybody had something good to say about him. Interesting how many Vegas players knew Elliott and learned about progressives from him. I remember how his eyes sparkled when I brought up the topic--he took a deep breath and launched into an amazing discourse on the subject. As I said in my article, he literally whipped out a hand-written sheet with the most detailed information I ever saw on progressives.
Every other sentence from Elliott had to do with his wife, Joanie, who was moving with lightening speed from bank-to-bank--everything he said demonstrated his devotion to her. I ran into Joanie after Eliott had passed away and was glad that we were able to discuss him.
Again, it's great to have you as a member of this group! Linda |

Hi Linda,
I'm thrilled that you have this forum and hope that it's an enormous success!
I have put this forum in my "Favorites List", and will check it often.
Best wishes to my fav Guru....You!
I thought that the article you wrote, on Progs., which was posted on the vpFREE forum, was one of your best!
I also knew Elliott Shapiro, and was very unhappy to hear of his demise. He was a true gentleman, always willing to help a newbie. He was also one of the foremost authorities on progs., in the vp community! Those that were lucky enough to receive and heed his sage advice, seldom regretted it! ~Babe~ |

Welcome to Midwest Gaming and Travel's Grand Opening of their video poker forum. You've come to the right place if you love the game and have questions or just want to discuss the ins and outs of video poker. Best of all membership is free and we only ask that basic "netiquette" rules be observed. Common courtesy--you're talking to your friends, not your former spouse.
I've been playing video poker since the mid eighties, although I played table games as well when I started. For the last 10 years or so it's been video poker exclusively, although I do use match play coupons for blackjack. If you check Midwest Gaming and Travel's archives, then you'll see some of my past features. I've been writing and revising my video poker strategy cards for several years and they're accurate as well as easy to use during casino play. You'll get free removable strategy cards with my new book, "The Video Poker Edge", available in major bookstores or amazon.com.
If you've traveled through the heartland states lately--or even along the East and West coasts--then you've seen new casinos under construction as well as people working on expanding the existing ones. Looks like business is booming with no end in sight. I don't consider gambling a good way to earn a living, but it's certainly lots of fun, especially if you're in control of your budget and a smart player.
IGT founder Si Redd placed the first video poker machine on the casino floor in the late seventies, thinking it would be a good amusement--he expected people to plunk in a coin or two on their way to the table games. Today it's one of the most popular games in the casino. That's because it gives players a good chance to go home a winner if they choose the best games and play mathematically correct.
Moderating a forum is a brand new and exciting venture for me. I look forward to talking to other video poker enthusiasts! Linda
