| Your strategy observations are helpful and give a new perspective to the game. I admit I played at Station casinos when it first came out. There was a lot of publicity on forums, media and from casinos that were going to have GP. I never won any money because I was mostly in the hole right away. Feeling it was hopeless made the game boring and I stopped playing after a few tries. I am interested in what happens when others try the new form of GP. If I play I will definitely take into account the advice from vp wiz. I think I will look for a game that has more hands with big jackpots like double double bonus instead of jacks or better. If I get ahead with quads I will cash out right away as suggested. |

A few stray thoughts:
The change in game structure (credits can't go negative) greatly simplifies the challenge of determining how to play the game optimally.
The game is largely transformed to one where you play until you hit big, sufficient to bring your credits to a profit vs. the game cost, and then you immediately cash out and start over.
The value of hands paying less than 100 credits (e.g. F & S) are minimalized. Odds are that any credits one from those hands will be lost again (even with a strong paytable) in absence of a big hit, so there's good reason to forgo holds for those hands and focus entirely on quads and the RF.
In adopting a strategy where you pretty much hold only pairs, RF cards (and 2's in deuces), it's possible to calculate the expected frequency with which you'll get a big win and cash out profitably during a session ... and thus, get a good handle on likely expected game return. |

Remember when it first rolled out and we had a ton of posts concerning it? I recall I spent some time at Palace Station and at Red Rock playing it with very little success (but that version went into negative credits and put the player into a deep hole right from the start). I really would like to give BP a shot, but at 6/5 I might as well just feed that $20 bill into a paper shredder. |

I see from the Station Casinos web site that they have brought back the guaranteed play video poker that died a few years ago. It appears that they tweaked the games whereas before you would enter into a negative credit amount, and now, the counter stops at zero.
Has anyone played the new version yet?
I will be back in LV in September and might try it again. With the lousy pay tables they offer, I won't experiment with this for very long.
