Somebody sent me an ad for New York-New York offering
| Quote: | Rooms From $39 per night and Fun Extras!
The phone number listed is: 866-298-2027
Ask For Code: BRGEB49A
It lists: Your Extras:
Park Avenue Deluxe Upgrade
2-for-1 Breakfast
2-for-1 Admission to Roller Coaster
2-for-1 Admission to Night Club
2-for-1 Welcome Cocktails
|
I called the number listed and asked if there was an additional "resort fee" that wasn't mentioned anywhere in the ad. I was told there was a $12.95 fee. I asked if it was per night and told yes. In my opinion, having a big ad ad advertising $39 per night in huge letters and never mentioning the resort fee, even in small print, is pure and simple false advertising. The list of "extras" is a joke if you're over 30--have you seen the roller coaster? Yikes! These people don't even offer a free cup of coffee or newspaper. Linda |

| This is good information. I have been staying at Harrah's because I don't like the resort fee concept. I will ask when I accept a comped room if they are going to add a resort fee. Maybe they add the fee but if the room is comped and you ask they will remove it. I have heard of others say they were relieved of the fees when they asked their host. I have had a lot of strip offers and will take them up on it if they don't charge the fees. |

I returned July 1 from a trip to LV, staying at Green Valley Ranch and also at Wynn-Encore. In both cases I had a comped room. In both cases they had resort fees that did NOT apply to comped rooms. I personally love GVR, especially in the summer because of their wonderful pools. both the large guest pool and also the lap spa pool. Their payout, although they have been reduced, are still better than the strip casinos. As for Wynn-Encore, you cannot beat their fantastic rooms. I do not use any of the items that would apply to resort fees, but the pool outside Encore is also very fun.
Again, I don't believe fees apply to the comped rooms.

As previously stated, my view of resort fees is it's a way of saying we're desperate to tack on a few extra dollars but expect you to play dollar and up devices. Wynn apparently is in dire need of the extra $25 per day so they have added this devious fee. (See first post in this thread.)
I'm cutting and pasting this from the comps forum regarding MGM's fee:
| Quote: | Here it is:
'For your convenience, for arrivals after July 4th, a daily resort fee of $10 plus tax will be added to your room account and includes the following hotel services: Complimentary high speed internet, $15 beverage credit per stay available at any MGM owned bar, daily USA Today newspaper, local and toll free numbered calls, limited Business Center Services such as outgoing faxes, copies, notary, and boarding pass printing.'
This is still a dreaded Resort Fee, but depending upon how you look at it, you might benefit from it. If you are only staying one night, the bar comp is more than the fee. I think it is worth noting that it is lower than a lot of the other resort fees out there, too. Even if you are staying a couple days, the fee is less than what most places charge for Internet access alone when done ala-carte. |
The thing that makes this most annoying is the "for your convenience" crapola. Judge Judy came out with a book a while back with a title something like (doing this from memory) "Don't Piss on My Leg and Tell Me It's Raining"--that's what this sort of statement brings to mind. Really don't so much mind the fee, just add it to the price. You can't get credit for say a $50 room rate when you're really charging more. Okay so this is a pet peeve for both Dewey and I. Linda |

| I have expressed my opinion on resort fees in the past and I am still against them. They could be honest and add the fee upfront and then have small print indicating the rate includes resort fees and you are getting the following for the printed rate. When casinos try to hide fees that increase their hotel rates it makes them seem deceptive and I wonder what other kinds of deceptions are on the casino floor. The people defending the fees seem to be saying who cares about twenty or thirty dollars more per night when you are staying at the Wynn or another high end strip casino. It won't be a hardship for me or anybody else staying in a three to five hundred a night room. I simply don't like the inherent deception in these offers. If you are going to offer me a free room based on my play don't add fees for things I may or may not want. I am embarrassed for them that they invite me with such a gracious invitation and tell me I have to pay for something like using the pool whether I use it or not. Bad taste. |

From the article, "In an ongoing effort to enhance our guests’ resort experience, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore will implement a $20 resort fee to all reservations."
Bad enough that Wynn is so desperate that he needs $20 extra a day from his upscale customers, but to compound the tackiness with a clear contradiction is really awful. I mean Wynn caters to high rollers and would gladly tell you $10,000 or more per day (pulled that number out of a hat) is a reasonable budget but by the way he needs that extra $20. Now to describe this fee as a way to make the experience better for guests is worse than the fee. This organization has no shame. |

Not wild about the resort fee even though $20 is so little--just the idea of being treated like a chump that bothers me. Also, don't like that they're offering worthless perks. I'm driving, so the printing of a boarding pass is worthless and I use my iPhone instead of lugging my lap top. Not going to be staying long enough to use the fitness room--one or two nights. Good thing we have you reporting on the latest with the resort fee situation. Linda |
This one is pretty new so I don't know if it applies to comped rooms as well. Sometimes they don't. |

Add Wynn to the list with resort fees. $20 a night.
Fitness room
Internet
Printing of boarding passes
Meanwhile Vegas club and Plaza, the lowest of the low end properties are advertising nights for $10 now through August if booked by June 30.
Sunday through Thursday
mention code LVSTAY or PLSTAY
I had an adequate room in Vegas Club North Tower last time. I suspect these prices are for the South Tower as was my original booking. On confirmation, they offered me North for an upgrade of $5 a night and then never charged me. |
